GLP-1s, Protein and Low Sugar: How Breakroom Snacking Is Changing

What people reach for at break time is changing, and GLP-1 medications are a big part of the story.
How many people are taking GLP-1s?
A KFF poll published in November 2025 found that about 1 in 8 U.S. adults (12%) say they are currently taking a GLP-1 drug for weight loss, diabetes or another condition, and 18% say they have taken one at some point. In an office of 150 people or an apartment building with 200 units, that adds up.
What they buy instead
A Cornell study published in the Journal of Marketing Research tracked what households bought after someone started a GLP-1 medication. According to ScienceDaily's January 2026 summary:
Grocery spending fell an average of 5.3% within six months.
Savory snacks fell about 10%, with similar drops for sweets, baked goods and cookies.
Yogurt saw the biggest increase, followed by fresh fruit, nutrition bars and meat snacks.
What that means for your breakroom or lobby market
A vending machine that only carries chips, candy and soda is built for a customer who is shrinking. A smart market can carry the full range: the classics people still love, plus options for people who are eating less or eating differently.
At The Break Lane, we stock low-sugar, high-protein, plant-based and gluten-free choices right alongside chips, cookies and candy. We can also add fresh and frozen items like yogurt, fruit, salads and sandwiches.
We adjust as tastes change
Our software tracks what sells in real time, and every market has a QR code where anyone can suggest a product. If your residents or employees start buying more protein snacks and fewer chips, the shelves change with them.
No cost to your property
We design, install, stock and maintain every market at no cost. We serve offices with 150+ people, apartment buildings with 200+ units, and warehouses and manufacturing sites across New Jersey and the NYC area. See if your building qualifies.
